| Cause of death was hepatic hemorrhage. Contributing factors were alcohol and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a genetic connective-tissue disorder. His grave marker at Alta Mesa Memorial in Palo Alto reads: "Pigpen Was and Is Now Forever One of the Grateful Dead" |
